Carroll Distributing — Beer Distribution Facility

Project Overview

Carroll Distributing operates a 165,000-square-foot beer distribution facility in Rockledge, Florida. BEED Engineering provided mechanical engineering design services for the building.

A distribution warehouse of this size is not an office HVAC problem. Large storage volumes, loading activity, and occupied support spaces have to be conditioned and ventilated as one industrial building in Cocoa and Rockledge.

The Challenge

Beer distribution combines warehouse floor area with offices and other occupied rooms. Mechanical systems have to hold temperature in a large volume building without treating every square foot as conditioned office space.

The design had to:

• Provide mechanical systems for a 165,000-square-foot distribution facility
• Serve warehouse, office, and support uses from one coordinated mechanical design
• Fit the climate and occupancy of a Brevard County industrial building

Electrical and plumbing engineering were not listed as part of this assignment.

BEED Engineering's Scope

BEED provided mechanical engineering design services for the Rockledge distribution facility.

Construction administration was not listed as part of this scope.

Engineering Solutions

The mechanical design covered HVAC for the beer distribution building so warehouse and occupied support areas could operate as one facility. At 165,000 square feet, the work is industrial mechanical engineering — equipment, air distribution, and controls sized for a distribution plant rather than a retail storefront.

The Carroll Distributing building in Rockledge is the public face of that mechanical design: a large North Brevard distribution facility engineered for warehouse use.
